Current information - August 7, 2020

Dear Parish Families,

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the previous suspension of our Masses, we experienced a shortfall in our offertory collections over the last several months.  To make up this shortfall, we are embarking on a fundraising effort called A Promise of Hope & Healing.  You will receive more information in the mail in the coming weeks. The mailing includes a letter from me describing our parish's financial position, the challenges we are facing and the ways you can help. Please reflect on the information and consider how you can make a promise to help our parish community heal and thrive financially. This program is above and beyond your weekly offertory support. This is an extraordinary effort to raise as much as possible in the next three months. Our hope is to have every family participate in the program. Together we can IMPACT our current situation and get through this difficult time.

Join us for an important Impact Weekend, August 22 & August 23.  I ask that you please review the information in the mailing and prayerfully consider your level of support.  Your response and participation is very important.  You can make payments using your credit card or an ACH automatic withdrawal through our Online Giving program as well.

Thank you for your support and prayers!

Fr. Daniel M. Balizan

Blood Drive sponsored by the Knights of Columbus
Sunday, August 16th

"Drive-up Communion"

The Most Holy Eucharist is distributed after the 11:30AM Mass to those who are leery about attending Mass or venturing out during the pandemic.  The Eucharist is distributed on the EAST side of the church as you drive through the path-way near the EAST entrance.  Prior to receiving Communion watch a live-streamed or televised Mass and pray a hearfelt Act of Contrition. You MUST wear a mask.

Live-Streaming Mass

Santa Maria de la Paz will continue to live-stream the Sunday 9:30AM Mass via Twitter.  New camera equipment was recently installed in the main church to improve the live-streaming.  If you attend the 9:30AM Mass, please note that there may be a chance that you will be seen on the live video broadcast.

Parishioners may access SMDLP's live-streaming  at  Please note: You DO NOT need a twitter account to view the live-stream.

Fr. Joel is accepting appointments to hear confessions and is available on Monday and Tuesday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.  You may call the Parish Office at 473-4200 to make an appointment for confession.

Mass in Church during COVID-19 Pandemic;
1st Phase of Return

Santa Maria de la Paz will adhere to the current Governor of New Mexco public health order and Archdiocese of Santa Fe guidelines regarding Mass during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Church is set-up for 25% occupancy with safe social distancing and protective measures. All public areas including the restrooms are properly sanitized after each Mass.

Face Masks Required
Parishioners MUST wear a face mask prior to entering the church and during Mass.  If you are not wearing one you WILL NOT be allowed to enter.  This is for your protection and the safety of others.  We also ask that you DO NOT bring children less than three years old to Mass.

Communion is distributed at two stations in the back of the church at the end of Mass as parishioners prepare to exit. The host may only be received in the hand in order to decrease the possibility of cross-contamination. All communicants MUST be masked, receive the host in their hand, and step aside PRIOR to lifting the mask for consuming.

After Mass
Parishioners should depart immediately after Communion and avoid socializing in the Gathering Space and/or the parking lot.

Stay Home if Sick
If you are sick, feel uncomfortable attending a large gathering or have a compromised immune system PLEASE STAY HOME.  The dispensation from the Sunday obligation is still in effect.

Dear friends in Christ,
Welcome to Santa Maria de la Paz, a Catholic faith community that serves many and welcomes all. We are a parish that has been blessed with a history of outstanding parishioner commitment, investment and involvement. It’s our spiritual home where each lives for the other and all live for God.

Whether as a current member of our parish family or an individual searching for a parish, I hope and pray that you find this community of faith warm, welcoming and committed to the Gospel of Jesus and His church. Our parish family is encouraged to seek a deeper understanding of what it means to use our time, talents and treasure by serving our church in one or more of our many ministries and by being good stewards. Our parishioner’s presence enriches us and builds up the life of the Church.

We are blessed to be one of eight churches in our community that founded the only regional Catholic elementary school in our Archdiocese; Santo Nino Regional Catholic School was open in 2006.  We are also blessed to support St. Michael’s High School, a high school rich in Catholic tradition. When you have some time, please visit both schools either in person or on the web by clicking the links below. Prayerfully consider the strong academic environment of Santo Nino and St. Michael’s for your students; I assure you it’s a wonderful opportunity for a child in the early years of their formation.

So as you glance through our website, you will find the elements of our faith community that we hope will lead you to a deeper relationship with God, engage you in a greater sense of community with others and inspire you to wider service to our sisters and brothers.

So once again welcome, we are glad to have you with us as we journey together in and with the Lord of life, love and all good and wonderful things as Jesus is our past, present and future.

Please know you are always in my prayers.
